A day after Jayalalithaa government wrote to Centre seeking release of Rajiv Gandhi’s killers, Home Minister Rajnath Singh has said that the govt is examining Jaya’s letter and will take a decision later.
By writing a letter before the polls, Jaya has put Central govt in a huge political fix.
When asked about Jaya’s demand, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi said, “As a son, I will not express my personal opinion, but officially this has come to the govt, now govt needs to decide.”
The Supreme Court on December 2, 2015, ruled that the Tamil Nadu government could grant remission and release the convicts only in consultation with the central government in cases investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
