Insight: Kashmir’s youth speak out; say they were bullied into abusing India

By NewsX Bureau | Updated: 5 October 2016 , 10:24 pm
For the longest time we’ve been told that the demand for ‘azadi’ in the Kashmir valley is genuine. That from the oldest civilian to the youngest school going child there remains a deep and abiding hate for the over-bearing Indian state.

This line has been peddled by a section of Kashmir’s netas, journalists and civil society. Many other peaceniks outside of the valley have amplified this imagined sense of alienation. Their empathetic remarks have given Pakistan grist to claim that India is suppressing the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. But today NewsX has managed to pierce this smokescreen. Several individuals have come forward speaking out against a well-orchestrated and systematic enterprise run by Pakistan’s agents, in particular the likes of Geelani to force locals in Kashmir valley to spew propaganda against India.

These voices have revealed how families are threatened with violence, youth are thrashed and people’s possessions are torched by teams of separatist thugs if anyone dares to seek out normalcy or align themselves with India. The voices we bring to you today are risking their lives to expose what we on NewsX call fabricating alienation at gun point.
