The Chief Justice of India Justice J.S. Kehar has taken a strong stand on frivolous Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that have been clogging the judiciary and wasting precious judicial time.

The apex court recently fined Rs. 10 lakh to an MLA from Bihar for wasting a courts time by pleading for an investigation into a news report that was published 22-years ago.

In another instance, the Supreme Court also fined an NGO Rs. 25 lakh for filing frivolous cases in Supreme Court, the NGO and its chairman were also restrained from filing PIL’s.

The Supreme Court has also sent a message to High Courts across the country to act touch on “Frivolous PIL’s” which waste judicial time and may not concern public interest in any manner whatsoever.
