Nation at 9: Nirbhaya rapist, juvenile convict to be set free in December

He held her down as she screamed, asked his drunk fellows to beat her to silence while raping her in that moving white bus on a cold winter night in Delhi 3 years ago. When the boy she was with tried to fight, he smashed his limbs with an iron rod, then turned the rod to her, ripping her flesh until even that could not satisfy his heinous perversion.
So he ripped apart her organs with his bare hands. He confessed to it all; he was convicted in a court of law. But he was 17 years and 8 months old. And the law says he walks free in 40 days from now after serving just 3 years in a reform home. Insiders say he’s not even remorseful. The Intelligence Bureau fears he’s been radicalised into terror. But we can’t even tell you his name. He’ll be free to walk on a street near you.
Benjamin Franklin once wrote that justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are.
She died in that hospital in Singapore. Do we as a Nation of laws actually owe Nirbhaya an apology.
