Two incidents in Bengal expose the state of affairs—first is Malda, a district engulfed in communal fire with minority mob going on a rampage; a police station has been ransacked, buses and shops have been torched, but the Mamata govt refuses to supply answers. The incident has forced the centre to step in and ask the state for a detailed report.
In Kolkata, a nationalist was assaulted by a mob for teaching his pupils to recite the national anthem; again no action taken by the govt despite repeated pleas of help by the victim. With polls around the corner a shrill political blame game has begun with all stakeholders blaming each other for playing appeasement politics on the one hand and polarising on the other.
