The Sunday Guardian has revealed today that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is considering setting up a separate Ministry or Department of Homeland Security to deal with internal security in the country.

This development took place after he was apparently appalled at how the government departments and agencies handled the attack on Pathankot. The PM was upset by the handling of the Pakistani terrorists in Pathankot last week.

On the question of a separate Ministry, the PM may make an announcement soon after Makar Sankranti on the 14th of January.

The question now is: Does India need to totally re-imagine its security architecture, beginning with a Ministry of Homeland Security?
