The Bombay High Court today observed that there is a need for fresh guidelines to monitor obscene content online and also content on social media platforms such as YouTube.
This comes after the HC was hearing a plea against AIB’s roast for using obscene content during their live show and its subsequent uploads on YouTube. Earlier HC had directed the police not to file chargesheets against actors such as Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Kapoor and Karan Johar. They had been charged for allegedly using obscene language during AIB Roast show.
The question which rises is that who decides if a particular content is obscene? What is obscene for one might not be obscene for another.
