A day after NewsX interviewed the man who conducted a forensic reconstruction of the Ishrat Jahan encounter certifying it to be genuine. The BJP has moved a notice seeking a re-probe into the entire case. The notice will be discussed in the Lok Sabha next week.
This development comes on a day when NewsX reported two fresh developments that have created a big stir. First a member of the SIT instituted to probe the Ishrat encounter told NewsX that the body was not in a position to objectively interpret the evidence because a member of the SIT was intent on undermining the probe to suit a political agenda.
Second, a tape from 2013 has emerged in which Ishrat’s whistleblower and former union home secretary GK Pillai is heard saying that Ishrat Jahan was innocent and that there was no evidence to suggest she was linked to the LeT. The tape has given the Congress and other opposition parties to attack Pillai and question his credibility.
Viewers may recall that just last week Pillai told NewsX that he was certain that Ishrat had links to the LeT. The unending saga of twists and turns prompts one basic question — is a re-probe into the Ishrat encounter now the only route to justice?
