A day before the state chief minister Harish Rawat was set for a floor test, the Congress gets a massive jolt in Uttarakhand – President’s Rule has been declared in the state. Former chief minister and leader of the rebel group Vijay Bahuguna welcomed the development, saying the Centre was forced to take this decision because there was “murder of democracy” in the hill state.

He added the state was in the grip of mafias and there was high-level corruption in excise and other government departments. While the Congress claims it is a murder of democracy, BJP has hit back saying it was the Rawat govt that violated constitutional norms.
