In a massive political reverberation, Prime Minister Modi’s hand-picked successor in Gujarat and his closest advisor Anandiben Patel quit in unprecedented style on Monday.

In a one of a kind Facebook post, the Gujarat chief minister said she was taking the step in conformity with a newly imposed age cap as she turns 75 this November. Moments after the announcement the BJP president Amit Shah came out and welcomed the precedent setting decision congratulating her for setting a new benchmark in public service.

The opposition, however, is not willing to accept this explanation, calling it much too expedient. According to the Congress and AAP, far from age, rage, they say, is reason for Patel’s decision. The parties claim that this is confirmation that the party has found a convenient scapegoat in the CM ahead of the UP elections to appease Dalits who are upset with the recent attack on community members in the state.
