Nation at 9: Big Constitutional showdown — Karnataka ‘resolves’ to turn off Cauvery water taps

By NewsX Bureau | Updated: 23 September 2016 , 11:17 pm
Karnataka assembly adopted a resolution to use Cauvery water only for drinking. This comes hours after the state’s legislative council passed a similar resolution.

This means that it has decided not to implement the Supreme Court’s directive to release 6,000 cusecs of Cauvery water a day till September 23 to Tamil Nadu.

The Cauvery conflict is threatening to turn out into independent India’s biggest ever constitutional crisis. The state govt can continue to insist that it’s all for the people, but can lawmakers turn out to be greater than the law?
