The Supreme Court’s (SC) landmark verdict upholding the Right to Privacy as a fundamental right has opened new doors to revisit the Section 377 which criminalizes adult same-sex consensual sexual relations.

While pronouncing its verdict in the Right to Privacy case, the SC today said, “Discrimination against an individual on the basis of sexual orientation is deeply offensive to the dignity and self-worth of the individual.”

The Supreme Court’s words came as a big relief for the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) community which now hopes that the apex court will soon re-look in its 2013 verdict on section 377.
