China has opened a 409 km new expressway linking Tibet’s provincial capital Lhasa with Nyingchi which is close to the Arunachal Pradesh border. The toll-free expressway has lined the two major cities which are also tourist attractions in Tibet.

The new expressway has provided China with an advantage of mobilising military and weaponry faster. However, heavy trucks are temporarily banned from using the highway. Meanwhile, India has also fastened its infrastructure along the India-China border. The question however is – will this close proximity of China to the India border act as an opportunity or become yet another standoff at the border?
