Farmer in Andhra commits suicide, blames CM

Andhra Pradesh: Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have witnessed the highest number of farmer suicides, due to the extreme drought conditions prevailing there. Anothers farmer’s name is added to this list now.

Simhadri Venkateshwar Rao, 49, a tobacco farmer, wrote a letter to Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, a week before committing suicide. In the letter he questioned him, whether spending 5.5 crore on a bus for his own safety was more important than providing finances to the poor farmers.

Rao, who belonged to West Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh, was struggling to pay 22 lakh which he had taken as loan for his children’s education, medical expenses and rent.

He wrote in the letter, "Isn't it the Chief Minister's responsibility to ensure that even one farmer doesn't commit suicide?"

Thus bus that, Rao mentioned in the letter was commissioned by Naidu last year, when he decided to take a tour of the entire state for monitoring the impact of cyclone hudhud.

However, police is denying that Rao wrote any such letter and justified his suicide by linking it with his personal family problems and his separation from his wife three months ago.

Whereas, Naidu has commented on the same by stating that the government has done a lot for farmers and this issue of suicide is different from his safety and security.

Rest in peace Mr Rao.

Rest in peace Mr Rao. But 22 Lakhs loan for "children’s education, medical expenses and rent" --- and Naidu is responsible? Sorry sir. It was you who was a weak person and left your family stranded. Yes, you didn't have the money. Millions of others in our country can't even get 22 thousand of loan, forget 22 lakhs. Blaming Naidu for all your personal trouble is stupid. May be Naidu made a mistake getting that bus, which was used as a monitoring station for relief efforts after the cyclone. Or may be Naidu was totally right in doing so. But what was not right was you committing suicide and blaming anyone else, including Naidu.
