Jayalalithaa announces Amma mobile phones

TAMIL NADU: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday announced the launch of Amma mobile phone scheme for women self-help groups.

The government headed by Jayalalithaa intends to invest Rs. 15 crore to buy 20, 000 Amma mobile phones with special software in Tamil for women self-help groups’ trainers.

AIAIDMK Chief Jayalalithaa is fondly called as ‘Amma’ in her state. She already has a list of schemes that are being administered by her government in the name where a subsidized chain of canteens for the poor is extremely famous among them.

Rival Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in 2006 drove to power in the state by promising free colour TV sets to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families that held ration cards.
