Mob kills a man over beef eating rumours, son critically injured

DADRI:  A mob killed a 50-year-old man in Dadri region of Uttar Pradesh (near Delhi) on Monday night reportedly over rumours that his family had eaten beef.
Mohammad Akhlaq was dragged out along with his 22-year-old son Daanish by the villagers of the region which is situated approximately 45 km from the national capital. Attacked with bricks, Akhlaq was beaten to death by the mob. While the man died even before he could be taken to the hospital, his son is reported to be critical.
The villagers before assaulting the father-son duo broke into the house and ruined everything and even attacked the women that were present in the house.
“My husband was bleeding. His head was smashed. They beat the husband had no enemies...,” Akhlaq’s wife was quoted saying in a media report.
According to the victim’s daughter, they only had mutton in their fridge which the police has taken and sent it for forensic testing.
The family was residing in the village for more than three decades. The police have claimed to be investigating the matter and on how the rumours over beef initiated.
“We found out that the people beat them because they consumed cow meat. More people will be arrested,” senior police officer S Kiran said.
The arrest news created a major ruckus in the area as villagers clashed with the police which forced them to fire in the air. According to the villagers, a boy was injured in the firing.
