Dehradun-Varanasi Janta Express derails in Rae Bareli; 20 dead

LUCKNOW: Three bogies of Dehradun-Varanasi Janta Express on Friday derailed near Bachhrawan station of Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh.

According to the reports, at least 20 people are confirmed dead and around 150 are injured in the incident.

The rescue team rushed to the spot and the relief operation is underway.

Engine and two coaches including a General compartment and Guard Compartment have been affected, said rail sources.

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a compensation of Rs. two lakh to the families of people killed in the accident and Rs. 50,000 for those injured. It said that officers have been directed to provide all possible help to the injured.

The accident took place as the train was coming to a stop at the Bachhrawan railway station, approximately 30 km from Rae Bareli.

The train services of the route have been disrupted following the accident.
