HARYANA: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi went to meet the kin of the Dalit family, the four members of who were set on fire while they were sleeping, on Tuesday.
Rahul Gandhi listened to their grievances and while leaving made harsh comments on the ruling government in the State. He said, “This is an attitude shared by the PM and CM of the State. The attitude is if somebody is weak, he can be crushed.”
However, BJP has hit back at Rahul and termed his visit as an attempt to revive the Congress and have tagged it as an act of ‘Opportunism.’
Earlier, Brinda Karat, CPM Leader also visited the spot to meet the victims’ relatives.
The Haryana CM is expected to soon meet the family.
It is alleged that the family was attacked by people from the Rajput caste, with whom they had had a confrontation in the past, relating to which a case was also registered.
The four members of the Dalit family were set ablaze yesterday, out of which two were children. Both the children, aged 11 months and two-and-half-years old, succumbed to the wild fire, whereas the mother has been referred to Delhi for medical treatment pertaining to her seventy percent burns. The father too suffered minor burns while trying to rescue his family.
Jeetender, children's father, said, "I want justice. Police didn't act on time."
People are protesting in large numbers over the attack and have blocked the Ballabgarh highway.
Haryana Police have arrested four people in connection with the attack and the investigation is still on.
Opposition has demanded the resignation of Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar.
