Farmer commits suicide in Uttar Pradesh

Jalaun (UP): A 53-year-old farmer on Saturday committed suicide at his house by hanging himself allegedly over crop loss due to untimely rains, police said.

Charan Singh of Sareni village under Sirsa police station area had gone to see his crop in the field this morning and had returned in a very dejected mood, his sons Rajvir and Rajkumar said.

Later in the afternoon, he committed suicide by hanging himself at home, they said.

Singh had taken loan from a bank and also from some local money lenders, they added.

District Magistrate Ram Ganesh said that monetary help will be extended to the deceased's family as per the rules after an inquiry.
