The narrative in the Battle for Bihar was nasty to say the least as it varied from Beef to Intolerance. So much so that the issue of intolerance dominated the national discourse during all the five-phases. Add to it the divisive and controversial remarks made by the some BJP leaders at a time when a large number of artists, writers and other artists were returning their awards to protest against what they called an ‘atmosphere of rising intolerance’ in the country.
Now that the results are out and the nda has been routed, there are some questions that need to be analysed. Is this a defeat of intolerance. Is the Bihar verdict a referendum on politics of hate?. Have ‘hotheads’ made the BJP pay a heavy price? And has the BJP been punished for being soft on ‘hotheads’?
