BENGALURU: As the protest over the mysterious death of IAS Officer DK Ravi’s continues to escalate, the Karnataka government has finally bowed down to the pressure and handed over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation or CBI.

Speaking in the Assembly regarding the case, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed that somebody’s death should not be politicized and slammed the Opposition for disrespecting the IAS officer’s death. “Opposition is making a mockery of demise. We respect the CBI and therefore, I have decided to hand over the probe to CBI.

We are not like BJP. Even though I am placing a status report before the Assembly, I still cannot reveal the CID report due to the orders from the High Court,” he said.

Welcoming the CBI probe into the matter, the Opposition claimed that the Karnataka government, ruled by the Congress wasted one week’s time by not taking the decision earlier.

“CM has passed on the investigation to CBI because of the pressure mounted on him by not only the people but also the family members of DK Ravi,” said BJP leader BS Yeddyurappa.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi had written to the officer’s wife confirming a fair investigation in the case. The assurance from Gandhi came soon after DK Ravi’s mother wrote an open letter to her which was also published in the newspapers.

The Congress President also spoke to the Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah last week and suggested him to pass on the case to the CBI.

DK Ravi was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his apartment in Bengaluru on Monday. The police state the incident as a ‘prima facie a case of suicide’, a debatable factor for many including his family and friends.
