UTTAR PRADESH: The spotlight is once again on the Uttar Pradesh police after a grim case of gangrape was reported in the Mirzapur district of the State.
Two brothers gangraped a class eleven student for avenging their mother’s defeat in the electoral polls. The rape victim was turned away by the police with merely an assurance. When they failed to act on the complaint, the girl committed suicide.
However, the cops have now arrested the two rapist brothers. A police official said that an FIR has been registered and the victim’s body has been sent for post-mortem. It is only after confirmation that any step will be taken against the accused.
Though the accused are under arrest, the big question that rises is why didn’t the police act in a timely manner and what was done to prevent the rape victim from taking her life?
This case has once again brought into the limelight the insecure environment that exists in the State for women.
