New Delhi: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation closed the Rajiv Chowk station on the eve of New Year at 9 p.m., an official said.
“As advised by police, entry and exit of passengers was closed at Rajiv Chowk station after 9 p.m. However, interchange facility will continue to remain available at the station,” a Metro official told IANS.
The official said other nearby stations like Barakhamba Road, Janpath and Patel Chowk may also be closed at short notice for passengers, if the need arises.
“As of now, these three stations are open for public till further police advice,” the official said.
This step was taken following security concerns on the occasion of New Year’s eve in the capital, an official confirmed.
Joint Commissioner of police M.K. Meena told IANS: “To prevent overcrowding in the Connaught Place area, we have requested the Delhi Metro to shut the Rajiv Chowk Metro station after 9 p.m. today.”
