KANPUR:  After a 24-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide by jumping before the train, his parents felt that the call from the police informing their son’s death was an ‘April Fool’ prank.

A resident of the Jalaun district, Ankit allegedly jumped in front of the train near Govindpuri Railway station in Kanpur on April 1, informed the railway police.

However, Ankit’s parents ignored the call twice when the police phoned them to inform about the incident, assuming it to be a prank, they said.

After waiting in vain for four hours, the officials sent the body for post-mortem.

Only after the police in Jalaun went and informed the Ankit’s parents personally, they arrived in Kanpur.

The reason behind the suicide is yet to be discovered, a police official said, adding, that the matter is being probed and the body would be handed over to parents after post-mortem.
