Missing mountaineer Mastan Babu dead

Hyderabad: Ace mountaineer Malli Mastan Babu, who went missing during an expedition in the high mountains between Argentina and Chile last month, has been found dead.

Hailing from Nellore in Andhra Pradesh, the 40-year-old accomplished mountaineer, who had gone on an expedition a fortnight ago, went missing as the weather took a turn for the worse, Nellore Police said.

He reportedly holds a record for being the fastest 'seven summit' climber from India.

A Facebook page set up by his friends and well wishers posted 'Mountains retained its favourite child..RIP Malli Mastan Babu.'

Indian embassies in Argentina and Chile coordinated with the local authorities in trying to locate the missing mountaineer.

Government officials informed the Mastan Babu’s family about his death, the mountaineer’s sister Dorasanamma said.

YSR Congress president YS Jaganmohan Reddy conveyed his condolences to Mastan Babu’s family, a release issued by the party said.
