UDAIPUR: At least three policemen brutally assaulted a mentally challenged man inside a police station for disturbing traffic and pelting stones on commuters in the city.
The incident grabbed the attention on Friday after a video footage of the assault was circulated, reportedly showing two to three policemen thrashing and kicking the mentally challenged man after tying his hands and legs inside Surajpol police station premises in Udaipur.
Following a complaint by the locals about him creating nuisance and causing traffic jam like situation on the Gulab Bagh road on Thursday, the man was picked up by the policemen. The man also pelted stone at the commuters, according to the report.
“The matter came to light yesterday. I have ordered an inquiry by a Deputy Superintendent of Police rank official and action against policemen found guilty of beating the mentally challenged person in the police station will taken after the probe,” SP Udaipur Ajay Pal Lamba said.
He said the man has been shifted to an asylum.
