Lucknow: A man in love with a teenager shot her dead early on Friday upon learning about her impending marriage, and then turned the gun on himself, police said.
The two deaths occurred in Bairyakaji village of Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur district.
The girl, Pinki Yadav, 18, died of excessive bleeding from the gunshot wounds at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) Trauma Centre where she was rushed.
The 35-year-old assailant, Jaihind Maurya, after firing at her, pulled the trigger on himself and committed suicide.
He was disturbed when he learnt that the girl was getting married in March.
An official said Maurya tried to persuade the girl to turn down the marriage move, but when she declined to do so,citing family pressure, he shot her dead.
This disconcerting event follows that of the January 17 story where a Delhi police sub-inspector shot dead a married woman and tried to commit suicide by killing himself later. The two people alleged had an affair but were married to different people.
