New Delhi: A six-year-old girl from east Delhi is being treated for her wounds in a hospital after a man from her neighbourhood sexually assaulted her. He was later arrested, police said on Friday.
The incident occurred in Shastri Park area on Thursday night, a few hours after the girl was lured by accused Al Shehrawat, 28, to a nearby wooded area.
Police said that the child was found in an unconscious state by her family members in the wooded area near the Shastri Park Metro station.
"The victim was rushed to GTB (Guru Teg Bahadur) hospital where her condition is stated to be critical," a police official said.
Shehrawat was arrested on Friday following the victim's statement. "She informed that the accused took her inside the wooded area and injected her before the assault," the official added.
The victim's family, who reside in the Shastri Park slum area, had filed a missing complaint on Thursday night after she suddenly vanished from outside her house while playing in the evening.
