Fresh firing at Attari border in Amritsar

ATTARI (PUNJAB): In a fresh provocation by Pakistan, firing was reported at Attari border in Amritsar on late Friday night.

According to the reports, three Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were injured as Pakistani troops opened fire near Attari.

The injured soldiers were taken to Guru Nanak Dev hospital in Amritsar, said BSF officials.

The firing occurred at the Daoke Border Out Post (BoP), about 5-6 km from Attari border check post, said BSF Deputy Inspector General (DIG) RPS Jaswal, adding “the area was being searched following the incident.”

The soldiers are always on high alert along the India-Pakistan border in Punjab and the border is often used by Pakistani and Indian smugglers for heroin smuggling.

The BSF has recovered nearly 125 kg of heroin along the Punjab border with Pakistan this year and last year, over 361 kg of heroin was recovered along the border.
