UTTAR PRADESH: Six Agra lawyers approached the Civil Court with a request to announce the 17th century Mughal monument a Hindu Shiva temple.
On Thursday, the District Court admitted a petition which states that Taj Mahal is a Shiva temple (Tejo Mahalaya). The appeal filed by six layers in Agra also seeks permission for Hindus to perform puja there.
A similar appeal was filed last month that was dismissed by the same court citing technical issues. It had demanded consent to register a case on the ownership of the Taj Mahal.
But this time, the court admitted the petition and issued a notice to the Central government, Union Home Secretary, the Union Ministry of Culture and the Archaeological Survey of India, requesting them to revert on the same by May 6. The next hearing in the matter is dated for May 13.
Harishankar Jain and his five colleagues have demanded a direction from the court for removing all alleged burials in Taj Mahal as well restrain Muslims from offering prayers there.
Jain others in their petition made Lord Agreshwar Mahadev the main applicant to claim the possession of the Taj Mahal.
