Maharashtra Legislature issues notice to Shobhaa De

MUMBAI: Days after renowned author Shobhaa De expressed her views on Twitter, Maharashtra Legislature Principal Secretary issued a notice to her and asked to explain the tweets on the state government's decision to make it mandatory screening of Marathi movies during prime time.

State Legislature Principal Secretary Anant Kalse said, “I have sent the notice to her on behalf of the Speaker asking her to explain her stance in a week.”

The notice was issued two days ago. It has been admitted and Shobhaa has been asked to submit her explanation, he added.

Earlier, Shobhaa De tweeted expressing her views, “I love Marathi movies. Let me decide when and where to watch them, Devendra Fadnavis. This is nothing but Dadagiri.”

While reacting to the tweet posted by Shobhaa De, Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik filed a breach of privilege against her for insulting Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the sentiments of the Marathi speaking people.

Citizens of India live under the constitutional illusion that their dignity is guaranteed, but Legistlatures from time to time have violated it by imposing their privileges. Then it is better to opt for monarchy or dictatorship. Dictatorship of the legislature of a democracy is the worst form of government!
