NEW DELHI: A 31-year-old doctor at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) allegedly committed suicide on Saturday by slitting her wrist at a hotel in central Delhi’s Paharganj.
Priya Vedi, a senior anaesthetist at AIIMS, left a suicide note and a Facebook post alleging that her husband was a gay and he tortured her mentally.
On the basis of suicide note, Kamal Vedi, a dermatologist at AIIMS, was arrested on Sunday.
According to the police, Kamal, 34, filed a missing complaint of her wife on Sunday evening after he failed to contact her.
The couple, resident doctors at AIIMS, got married five years ago and were staying at AIIMS staff quarters in South Delhi.
The police found the suicide note, in which the woman mentioned about her husband's sexual orientation and claimed that she had accepted it, but he torturing and harassing her for dowry is forcing her to take the big step.
Police found Priya lying in a pool of blood, in an unconscious condition at the hotel. She was rushed to the nearby hospital but the doctors declared her brought dead.
Kamal Vedi has been booked on the basis of suicide note and under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
