5-Year-Old Mumbai girl identifies rapist

MUMBAI:  After she was shown 10 photographs, the five-year-old alleged rape victim identified the ‘Uncle’ who took her to a deserted stretch near her residence, raped her and left her bleeding by the road.

The minor claims of knowing the ‘Uncle’ from a garment shop that she frequently visited with her mother.

The girl who could barely explain what she went through and needed two surgeries identified her alleged rapist on Thursday, precisely nine-days after the incident.

Following the girl’s report, 32-year-old Alam Ansari, who admitted of seeing the girl often when she came with her mother for embroidery work was arrested on immediate basis.

The girl, a resident of Antop Hill area of Central Mumbai went t o a nearby grocery shop on April 21 when she was allegedly picked up by the man she identified. 

The CCTV footage showed a man first talking to the child and then carrying her in his arms. According to the police reports, the man first offered chocolates to the girl which she refused and was allegedly raped two kilometers away.

The child was then found crying and bleeding by the residents but she had to wait for four hours to be admitted to a hospital as the police teams at Wadala Truck Terminal and Antop Hill argued over the jurisdiction of the case. “The girl was struggling between two police stations for hours before she was taken to Sion Hospital. Even that happened after the residents finally lost their patience,” informed a resident of Antop Hill.

Following an inquiry, two police officers were suspended on the orders of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
