CHANDIGARH: Amid massive political protests in Punjab over the death of a 14-year-old who was molested and thrown off a moving bus, the Punjab government has insulted the victim with a double betrayal.

The state Education Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Surjit Singh Rakhra insulted the victim and her family, saying “What ever happened was God’s will. Nobody can stand against nature’s will.”

“Even cars and planes have accidents,” Punjab Education Minister said at an event, adding “We also travel everyday and we don’t know what will happen. We should leave all this to God.” While, Moga MLA Joginder Pal Jain called it an accident, saying “A lot of accidents take place.”

The family of the girl has refused to cremate her and slammed Punjab government, saying “Punjab has no law and orders.”

Meanwhile, the family has turned down the state’s government’s offer of Rs. 20 lakh compensation and a job.

“We will not accept compensation. We want action to be taken and the bus company’s permit should be cancelled which is owned by the Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal’s family,” said the victim’s father in his statement.
