Wanted criminal killed in police encounter at Delhi restaurant

NEW DELHI: A criminal, wanted in several cases of frauds and other cases, was killed in an encounter with police at restaurant in Rajendra Nagar area of central Delhi on Saturday evening.

Accused Manoj Vashishtha, was hit by bullet during the gun-battle between criminal and a team of special cell of Delhi Police after he opened fire at the police when they spotted him and asked to surrender, said police, adding he was taken to nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. 

The incident happened around 8 pm when police received information that Manoj would be visiting Sagar Ratna restaurant in Rajendra Nagar, a trap was laid around the area. 

 “Manoj entered the restaurant and booked a table. The police came to his table, identified him and asked him to surrender. The criminal then opened fire at the police. When the police fired back in self-defence, he was hit by one bullet and fell down,” Special Commissioner of police said.
