NEW DELHI: Days after the dramatic shoot-out in the national capital which claimed the life of an alleged gangster Manoj Vashishtha, Delhi Police on Monday released the CCTV footage which clearly shows the details of the event as it happened.
According to the clipping, the police in plain clothes entered the Sagar Ratna restaurant in Rajendra Nagar area of Central Delhi and apprehended a man who was eating. Manoj, who was seen sitting at the restaurant, was trying to break away from the police official's grip as they spread out so that he doesn't flee away.
Within few minutes, a scuffle broke out as the gun-battle began and the gangster was hit by the bullet in the head.
Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi said, “An SIT (Special Investigation Team) will look into the details of the entire shoot-out. The decision was taken by Home Minister Rajnath Singh after the family of the deceased met him seeking help and demanded an independent probe into the matter.
The wife of the deceased and brother accused police of staging a fake encounter, claiming that Manoj Vashishtha was not the hardened criminal but was facing cases of fraud.
According to the police claims earlier, they had approached Manoj, identified him and asked him to surrender. However, he chose to open fire at the police. As they fired back in their defence, Manoj was hit by one bullet and fell down. He was then taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.
