PALAMU: At least 12 Naxals were killed by the security forces in Palamu district following a major gun-battle in Jharkhand late on Monday night. The operation was collectively initiated by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Jharkhand Police at Bakoriyaof Satbarba area.
Tagging the operation as ‘successful’, the police claimed of acting after receiving information about the movement in the area.
“We received the information of some Naxal movement in the area and the incident happened late in the night. They started firing at us as we stopped our car for checking. In retaliation, our officers shot back at them which killed 12 Naxals. Complete report of the event shall be submitted to the Jharkhand government,” informed IG, Jharkhand Police A Natrajan.
Sharing more details, Additional Director General of Police (Operation) SN Pradhan explained that the Naxals were moving in two vehicles and after one vehicle sped away, their people from the other vehicle got down and opened fire on the police. Eight weapons too have been seized from the spot.
This is the first big episode in Jharkhand after Maoists had trapped a police vehicle in Dumka on April 20 last year as the returning post completion of the third phase of Lok Sabha Elections. The incident had killed eight persons, including six policemen then.
