UTTAR PRADESH: The Uttar Pradesh government appears to be on a spree to display reluctance in the tragic death of journalist Jagendra Singh in Shahjahapur lately. After the ruling Samajwadi Party government ruled out an immediate action against minister Ram Murti Verma, accused of getting the journalist killed, a cabinet member of Akhilesh Yadav’s government presented a bizarre comments defending his colleague.
Further adding salt to the wounds of Singh’s family, Minister Parasnath Yadav on Monday expressed that the death of the journalist must have been written in his destiny.
The comments from Yadav came the same day when senior SP leader and UP Cabinet Minister Shivpal Yadav explained that Ram Murti Verma would not be removed without full inquiry into the alleged killing of Shahjahapur journalist Jagendra Singh.
On the other hand, the family of the journalist said that they would proceed with a hunger strike against the Akhilesh Yadav government questioning why no action has been taken against Verma yet.
Four policemen were suspended in connection with case on the weekend and a PIL has been filed with the Allahabad High Court demanding a CBI probe into the matter. The family has alleged pressure by the SP leaders to drop the charges.
“Police officials along with some SP goons came and set my husband on fire. We demand the resignation and arrest of the minister,” victim’s wife said.
Journalist Jagendra Singh succumbed to his injuries after he was allegedly burnt alive following a post from him on Facebook against Ram Murti.
According to the reports, Singh had written about the MLA in newspapers accusing him of evil practices regarding illegal mining and forced occupation of land etc.
