A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA in South Mumbai, Raj Purohit has left his party red-faced after he was reportedly caught on camera in a sting operation in which he criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah and said claims of internal democracy in BJP are fraud.
In the video, Purohit is heard saying that there is no collective leadership in the party and his comments have certainly left his party leaders embarrassed even as the legislator has ridiculed the charges by saying that it is not his voice in the clipping.
Tagging the video as ‘forged’, Purohit said in a statement, “The voice in it is not mine. The matter should be investigated forensically. I hold both Modi and Amit Shah in high esteem.”
In the sting video, Purohit had allegedly said that only two people (hinting at Amit Shah and PM Modi) take decisions in the BJP and others are there only to implement it.
"There is no collective leadership in the BJP and only two people take all the decisions and others only implement it. Collective leadership is a farce,” Purohit allegedly said in the video.
In the mean while, suspected Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers attacked the office of Purohit in Kalbadevi area on Saturday as the MLA was also seen reportedly ridiculing Raj Thackeray in the video.
“Raj Thackeray is bogus. He is not a leader but just a caste leader," the video shows Purohit as saying. “Injustice is being done to me. I am one of the senior most people in the BJP. I should have been a minister, next to Eknath Khadse,” the MLA said.
In a reaction to the latest alleged sting operation, Maharashtra state BJP unit president Raosaheb Danve said, “The matter will be taken up before the BJP disciplinary committee and he will be expelled from the party if the truth is established and if he has violated party discipline.”
