NEW DELHI: We have no doubt that our politicians do not engage a lot with people and in fact do not even bother to update their so-called general knowledge. This has yet another time been proven by the Education Minister of Jharkhand Neera Yadav who apparently thought that former President APJ Abdul Kalam is no more and paid tribute to ‘Late’ Kalam.
Known for public mistakes, the ministers have often been left red-faced following such blunders but this one by Yadav has crossed all limits. At an event recently, she paid floral tribute to former President APJ Abdul Kalam.
In her defence, Yadav then stated that in such schools, photos of great leaders are also garlanded to honour them and this is another way of paying respect. She further added that Kalam is a great scientist and there is nothing objectionable in garlanding the picture of a leader.
Like really? Is this what we expect from our ‘ministers’ who are there to rule the state? The worst is that Ms. Yadav was attending a school event in Hazaribagh district when this unfortunate incident took place.
Well, considering this episode, we wonder what the students of the schools in the state are really educated about.
