Three Kashmiri students were arrested on Saturday for showing disrespect to the National Anthem, Cyberabad police said. The incident happened in the afternoon when the three youth had gone to a movie theatre to watch a movie.

According to police, the Kashmiri students did not get up for the National anthem when it was being played in the cinema hall.

“On Sunday, we received a complaint that three youth did not stand, while the National Anthem was being played by the theatre management at the start of the film and they were also laughing while all the members were standing,” Shiva Prasad, Sub Inspector of the Rajendra Nagar Police Station told ANI.

He also said that the trio was brought to the police station for enquiry.

A case has also been registered under section 2 of Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act.

“They are studying B. Tech in the Al-Habeeb College of Engineering. We have registered a case under Section 2 of Prevention of Insult to National Honour 1971 Act,” Prasad said.

The case was registered on the basis of complaint by the theatre management.

The three boys — Jameel Gul, Omar Faiz and Mudabir Shabbir — are pursuing engineering in a college in Chevella and are resident of Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
