At least 22 people are reportedly dead after a boat carrying over 60 capsized in river Yamuna in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.

According to initial reports, around 12 people have been rescued and those required medical assistance have been admitted to a hospital.

The police and other concerned authorities have reached the spot and rescue operation is underway.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath have announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each for next of kin of those dead in this incident.

Earlier in April this year, at least 13 members of a family died and two others went missing when a boat capsized in a lake in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur district.

“13 bodies were recovered, 4 were rescued and two person were missing after a boat capsized in a stream in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur,” the police had said.
