Atleast 8 people have been killed and 25 others were injured after a massive fire broke out in a house where illegal fire crackers were manufactured and stored in a village in East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand.

As per reports, the fire that broke out at around 4 PM on Sunday evening caused a wall of the house to collapse. Five fire tenders have been rushed to the spot. The house is located at Kumardubi village, about 85-km from Jamshedpur. 

The officer -in-charge of Barsole police station, Binod Paswan said that some people are still feared trapped under the debris.

“A few villagers were making crackers for the festive season but they suddenly burst killing five people and sparking a fire which also spread to the adjacent houses,” Paswan said.

The villagers claimed that several people went missing after the incident that indirectly busted the illegal trade of firecrackers in the village.

Local BJP MP Bidyut Baran Mahato immediately rushed to the spot on being informed about the incident.

Mahato said, “I have already apprised Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das about the incident and urged the local administration to make adequate arrangements to provide the best medical aid to the injured in Jamshedpur.”

Mahato said that the Chief Minister of the state have assured him that an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh would be given to the kin of the deceased while the injured will get Rs 50,000.
