Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in a bid to provide smooth transport services to the commuters based in the National capital and the NCR region will not shut services on Diwali day and will run its last metro up till 10PM. The train services will run as usual the rest of the day, from 6AM onwards on all normal lines and from 4:45AM on the Airport Express Line.
“On account of the Diwali festival the last metro train service on 19 October will start at 10.00pm from terminal stations of all metro lines, including the Airport Express Line,” the DMRC said in a statement. Delhi Metro is an integral part of the capital and facilitates millions of commuters every day who use the convenient transportation system to reach almost any part of the capital. Recently Delhi metro welcomed criticism from the public as fares were almost doubled. However, metro still remains the most preferred mode of transportation.
DMRC also launched a special train featuring posters greeting commuters a happy and prosperous Diwali. The posters also displayed messages promoting cleanliness and peace. “Na shor hai, na jam hai, Swachhta ka metro deti paigam hai” was the motto spread across. The train was launched at the Udyog Bhawan Metro Station earlier today by Sharat Sharma, DMRC Director of Operations.
Metros are expected to be relatively less crowded today on account Of Diwali, but since the capital houses a number of commercial and media organisations which run even on the festival day it will be a huge relief for the employees who need to cover a long distance to work. The metro trains usually run till 12AM-midnight from 6 in the morning and remain closed on national holidays for one half of the day. People were expecting DMRC to provide discounts on Diwali but the fares are expected to remain as usual.
