New Delhi: Denim jeans giant Levi Strauss & Co and Google’s Advanced Technology and Products (ATAP) team announced their partnership on the project Jacquard for a wearable technology initiative.

They have developed a new jacket loaded with electronics as well as touch and gesture controls. The jacket is called the Commuter Trucker jacket and it was designed for city bike commuters.

Levi’s head of global product innovation, Paul Dillinger said that the jacket is aimed at cyclists who may be too busy riding and concentrating on their surroundings to reach into their pockets and fiddle with their phones.

The latest development in wearable technology could help make city streets safer for urban cyclists, allowing wearers to change songs, answer calls, or use smartphone GPS functions with ease.

Jacquard was first unveiled at Google I/O last year as a fabric that was weaved with technology.

The first Jacquard Project product, a denim jacket called Levi’s Commuter x Jacquard by Google Trucker Jacket, will be available for beta testing by the year’s end.

Commuter Trucker jacket will be available in spring 2017 at Levi’s stores and its online store.
