New Delhi: Facebook-owned WhatsApp has announced that it will end its support for Symbian devices by the end of this year (December 31, 2016).

According to reports, Symbian users all over the world are getting notifications that they won’t be able to use WhatsApp after 31/12/2016 because the app will no longer support their phone.

Earlier in February, WhatApp had announced that it would no longer support devices like Nokia S40, Nokia Symbian S60, smartphones with Android 2.1, Android 2.2 and Windows Phone 7.1.

A blogpost was put out earlier on the official website saying “WhatsApp is shutting down its support for these mobile devices as they no longer ‘offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future’, according to the blog post.”
