Modi expected to meet IOC President

It seems that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is keen to bring world’s biggest sports in India as India might soon make its first ever bid for hosting 2024 Olympics.

International Olympics Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach is expected to meet Modi on April 27 in Delhi to discuss the 2024 Olympic Games.

According to the reports, Ahmedabad may be chosen as the host city for the games, but the venue has not been discussed formally. The possible host cities will be shortlisted by the IOC in May 2016 and officially it would be named in July 2017.

However, 2010 Common Wealth Games (CWG) which was hit by scandals has put a massive question mark on India’s ability to host an international sports event.

According to the sources, IOC President Bach said, “We would welcome Olympics in India which have not hosted it before. Olympics in India would be a game-changer for the country.”

Meanwhile, former Athlete Sunita Godara has welcomed ‘Modi Mission Olympics’ and said that infrastructure need to be improved.

Mocking Modi’s aims to bid for Olympics, NCP said, “India should spend to improve its sports person's capabilities rather than spend money on such endeavours.”
