Kolkata: Pakistani cricket skipper Shahid Afridi during a press conference in Kolkata while replying to a NewsX reporter on Sunday said the Pakistani players have always received more love from the Indian crowd and fans than the Pakistani fans and people.
"India mein humne hamesha cricket enjoy kiah; yahan ke logon se humein bahut pyar mila; itna pyar humein Pakistan mein bhi nahi mila jitna yahan," he said. [Definitely there is a pressure to perform. We are very happy here (India). People here have always welcomed us. In fact we have always received more love from Indian people than Pakistani people.]
This comes at a time when doubts were being raised as to whether the Pakistani team would even make it to India to participate in the ICC World T20.
Due to several protests by the martyrs’ families of the Indian Army in the state of Himachal, the venue of the India-Pakistan match to be held in the Himalayan town of Dharamshala had to be shifted to a neutral location of Kolkata. PCB officials had said that the Pakistani team would travel to India only once they had ensured that all security measures were inspected and in place.
The team is now finally in India and is all set to take on India in the Eden Gardens on March 19. While praising the Indian team, the Pakistani skipper said the Kolkata match would be a tough one.
