New Delhi: Pakistan cricket team sources confirmed to NewsX on Monday that the team had expressed an interest to see the Hindi movie 'Jai Gangajal' starring Priyanka Chopra at a movie theatre on Sunday night but Kolkata police denied their request due to security reasons.
Meanwhile, NewsX also learnt that the team needs to disclose their plan to visit any place 15 hours prior to Kolkata police.
Pakistani cricket skipper Shahid Afridi during a press conference in Kolkata while replying to a NewsX reporter on Sunday had said the Pakistani players have always received more love from the Indian crowd and fans than the Pakistani fans and people.
"India mein humne hamesha cricket enjoy kiah; yahan ke logon se humein bahut pyar mila; itna pyar humein Pakistan mein bhi nahi mila jitna yahan," he said. [Definitely there is a pressure to perform. We are very happy here (India). People here have always welcomed us. In fact we have always received more love from Indian people than Pakistani people.]
This came at a time when doubts were being raised as to whether the Pakistani team would even make it to India to participate in the ICC World T20.
The Pakistan team which was originally scheduled to land in New Delhi on March 9 and arrive in Kolkata the same evening, took an Etihad flight from Abu Dhabi that touched down at the NSC Bose International airport at 7.45 pm on Saturday, ending speculation over their participation in the high-profile WT20 event, the pinnacle of glory in the game's shortest format.
Pakistan will open their WT20 campaign at the Eden Gardens on March 16 against the winner of Sunday's Bangladesh-Oman qualifier. Afridi’s team will face India next in a high-voltage clash on March 19 after the match was shifted from Dharamshala to Kolkata by the ICC because of security issues.
