Kolkata: Nature played spoilsport on Saturday morning in Kolkata as it rained steadily in the city ahead of the mega ICC World T20 2016 match between archrivals India and Pakistan. The steady downpour has kept the legendary Eden Gardens soggy, keeping the ground staff on tenterhooks.
“There is possibility of thunderstorms in West Bengal, not particularly in Kolkata,” said a local Meteorological department official.
The official bulletin of the department also said that “thundershower accompanied with squall with wind speed reaching between 50 and 60 km/hour is likely to affect some parts of the districts of Kolkata, North & South 24 Parganas.”
This is the heartbreaking news for millions of cricket buffs since a lot of preparation has gone into the clash between India and Pakistan from the moment it was shifted to Kolkata from Dharamsala due to security concerns.
Fans as well as Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) hope that the most awaited match of ICC World T20 2016 goes ahead uninterrupted.
On the other side, had the match remained in Dharamsala, there was strong chance of it getting washed out. The reason being, the mountain town was hit by a strong hailstorm accompanied by heavy rain in the morning.
The match is scheduled to start at the Eden Gardens at 7:30pm.
